Projects

Some of Eastcut’s early partnerships and project opportunities include:

The Hantsport

Developed in partnership with The Shaw Group, Somerled Properties and DORA Construction, The Hantsport is a beautiful four-story multi-family residential building featuring high-quality finishes, parking, full-service fitness facilities, a common room, a car wash bay, and more. The project was concluded in October 2022 and has 82 units. Located in Lantz, Nova Scotia's most exciting new community called Kiln Creek.

Through Eastcut’s superior wood construction quality and systematic panel production of open wall panels and floor cassettes, we could frame The Hantsport in just five months, representing a 35% reduction in cycle time over conventional methods!

The Sunflower Court

The Sunflower is a 25-unit affordable housing complex built in Lakeside, NS, to provide housing for vulnerable women, families and gender-diverse people facing homelessness and housing insecurity.

The Sunflower Court project was part of the Rapid House Initiative Program and was Eastcut’s first involvement in Passive House Design. For production, our internal design team created shop drawings of the unique passive design approach developed by Passive Design Solutions. This included shop drawings for the wall panels, floor cassettes and canopies. We reviewed the project with the production team and highlighted the importance and the positive impact this project would have on the community. This resonated with our team and translated into the quality of the product produced and then installed by DORA Construction onsite. The Sunflower Court welcomed its tenants fall of 2022.

Collaborating with Natalie Leonard and her team at Passive Design was also essential to the undertaking's success. Not only does this project help tackle the housing crisis, but our prefabricated panelized wall systems have been designed to reduce energy costs by 60% from code to reach Net-Zero energy consumption. Sustainable, affordable housing is a future we can all be proud of.

The Dunkeld

Construction is well underway on ‘The Dunkeld,’ a 79-unit mixed-use, multi-family residential building with 11,000 square feet of commercial space in New Glasgow, NS.

The Dunkeld is a 4-storey timber-framed mixed-use commercial and residential building set to open in the summer of 2023.

For this project, Eastcut has produced the following:

• 123 bundles of walls, roughly amounting to 2270+ wall systems

• 36 bundles of engineered floor systems, roughly amounting to 238+ floor cassettes

• 800+ feet of parapets

• Approx. 46 balconies

True North

The attainable housing project being developed on True North Crescent in Dartmouth is one more successful partnership between Eastcut Wood Building Solutions, DORA Construction, and Passive Design Solutions. Proposed by The Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia (AHANS), the project will create 25 affordable townhouses in the area. Halifax Municipality and Councillor Tony Mancini from District 6 (Harbourview - Burnside - Dartmouth East) made it possible for the Association to secure the land in the most affordable way possible.

The project’s first phase is well underway and consists of 12 units: a 2-storey portion with four units, a 3-storey portion with 8 units, and a stand-alone utility. True North is a passive design project and Eastcut prefabricated at the factory in Trenton, NS - Canopies, Roofs, 56-floor cassettes and Bundles/4431LF Walls installed by DORA on site. This will significantly reduce the time to get the building weathered and the project completed.
